On the day, Kia faced off against Samsung starting pitcher Hwang Dong-jae in the order of starting batting order, which includes Park Chan-ho (striker), Yoon Do-hyun (second baseman), Kim Do-young (third baseman), Choi Hyung-woo (designated hitter), Oh Sun-woo (first baseman), Kim Seok-hwan (left fielder), Lee Woo-sung (right fielder), Kim Tae-gun (catcher), and Park Jung-woo (middle fielder). KIA took the lead first in the top of the second inning. Changed pitcher Choi Ji-min was hit by a fly ball to left field by Kim Sung-yoon, and left fielder Oh Sun-woo caught it and attempted to throw home. The throw accurately entered catcher Kim Tae-gun's mitts, leading to third baseman Lee Jae-hyun's tagout. Samsung Bench's request for a video review did not reverse the decision.

Amid a tight current, Kim Do-young stepped in as the troubleshooter. In the top of the eighth inning, Kim hit a fastball 145 km/h on the first pitch of pitcher Kim Jae-yoon, which was changed to a situation with one out and runners on the first base, to hit a two-run homer with a driving distance of 125 meters. In the ensuing opportunity, Lee Woo-sung made a timely hit to the left with one RBI and runners on the first and third bases with two outs. 

KIA was trailing by one point when Kim Young-woong hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. However, closer Jeong Hae-young, who came up in the bottom of the ninth inning, kept the lead by one point. 

After the game, KIA manager Lee Bum-ho said, "We were able to win the game because both pitchers and fielders did not lose their concentration until the second half of the game.
